Caracas [Venezuela], September 16: Six foreign nationals were arrested in Venezuela on Saturday after officials accused them of plotting to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro.
The alleged plan was to "generate violence" and "destabilize" the country, Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said during a press conference. Cabello claimed that the Spanish and US secret services, as well as opposition leader MarĂa Corina Machado, were involved in the plans.
The individuals arrested include three Americans, two Spaniards, and one Czech citizen. More than 400 rifles and pistols, said to have originated in the United States, were confiscated.
The arrests come amid diplomatic tensions between Caracas and the governments of Spain and the US. (DPA)
