Brussels [Belgium], April 25:European Union and Ukraine will mutually recognise and enforce each other's court decisions in civil and commercial matters. EU member states voted to establish relations under the relevant international treaty with Ukraine, Council announced. The Council established that there were no fundamental obstacles to this in Ukraine - for example, concerning the independence of the judiciary, respect for fundamental rights and the fight against corruption. The Hague Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters enters into force on September 1. It obliges the contracting parties to recognise and enforce judgments from other states. Ukraine has ratified the 2022 convention. Monday's decision was an "important instrument to facilitate international trade," it said.(DPA)
